Munguti said Governor Alfred Mutua should hasten bursaries for orphans and vulnerable children in various secondary schools and institutions of higher learning from Machakos County.

He said parents of the needy children need to be supported financially as students prepare to resume to school for the second phase of first term.

In an interview with this writer in Muthetheni on Monday,  Munguti said many residents witnessed poor harvests due to erratic rains and can't afford to pay school fees as they depended on their farm produce for income.

“The county government should release bursaries in this one week midterm break so that students can report back to school with school fees," Munguti said.

Munguti urged the Machakos government to initiate a feeding programme in public primary schools across the county.

He said school going children miss lunch in public schools.

“Parents can no longer provide schools with food for the pupils due to poor harvest, neither can they provide food at home. This time most parents are struggling to put food on the table," Munguti said.
