Athi River Member of County Assembly (MCA) Michael Mutua has blamed the county government for frustrating and undermining its workers.
The MCA who was speaking to reporters on Tuesday said that the county continues to delay workers’ salaries and wages.
Mutua said that some workers in the county have not been paid for close three months and still work in poor conditions.
“Governor Alfred Mutua must stop frustrating county workers. They deserve their pay,” he said.
The MCAs comments came as hundreds of Athi River sub county sanitation workers went on strike to protest against delayed wages.
The workers who blocked the Machakos road claimed that the county has not paid them for three months.
The angered workers also spilled garbage on roads paralysing business for the better part of the day.
“We will not resume work until when our wages will be paid,” said a worker who sought to remain anonymous for fear of victimisation.
The worker claimed that efforts to have their matter addressed by the county senior officials have been futile.
They urged businessmen in the sub county to stop paying taxes until when their wages will be paid.
Mutua promised to have the matter addressed as soon as possible.
