The Machakos County Government has announced it will construct a new sports complex which will host multiple games in Machakos town.

Governor Alfred Mutua said the new facility will be used to develop youth talents both within Machakos and neighboring counties.

"The complex will be home to arenas hosting volleyball, tennis, basketball as well as handball tournaments," Mutua said.

Mutua spoke during an interview with Radio Jambo on Wednesday.

He has been lauded for his 'Maendeleo Chap! Chap!' initiative that has seen a multiple projects ranging from roads, water, agriculture as well as health being rolled out.

The governor came to the limelight first when he championed for the initiative to build a modern football stadium-, the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos town which recently hosted the Confederation of East And Central Africa Football Association tournament.

The Kenyatta Stadium is one of the five stadia that were recently rehabilitated by the government and are expected to host international matches involving the national team Harambee Stars.

The stadium cost about Sh800 million to complete.

"By January 2019, Machakos will be home to a modern sports complex that will house fields to various games," Mutua said.

 Mutua expressed his commitment in overseeing the smooth upgrading of all other sports facilities in the devolved unit.
