The Machakos County Assembly approved a motion sponsored by Matuu MCA Julius Ndawa which sought immediate action on the matter due to unprecedented road carnage in the ward over the recent past.

The assembly called on the executive to collaborate with the national government for bumps to be erected on the highway in Matuu Ward.

Ndawa said according to police report, 60 people lost their lives on the highway last year while 29 others have died on  the same road since the year began due to road accidents.

“Accidents are happening everyday along Thika -Garrisa Highway, there's need for bumps at Matuu Level Four Hospital, Mukalala and anywhere where people cross the road in large numbers," Ndawa said.

“This year alone we have lost 29 people, 17 in January and 12 others this month. The number is increasing," he added.

The Machakos speaker Florence Mwangangi told the Transport and Public Works Commitee to take up the matter and bring back the report on May 2, 2018.

“The motion having been approved by the house is committed to the Transport and Public Works Committee so that it can deliberate on the matter. Because of the urgency and importance of the matter, the committee should report back to this house within sixty days from today," said Mwangangi.
