Led by Musyoki Kivasu, the residents said they neither have food nor money to buy farm incentives hence live from hand to mouth due to the perennial rains experienced late last year making them harvest 'nothing'.

They spoke to Hivisasa in Yatta on Sunday.

Kivasu said residents were busy preparing their lands for planting while many of them can't afford to buy seeds for planting since all the money they had has been used to pay school fees.

Kivasu said timely supply of certified seeds and fertilizers by the county government will enable farmers plant in time with a view to strengthening their resilience to drought.

“The prolonged drought has hampered farm yields as majority of farmers were unable to harvest anything, it would be so bad for the residents to lose this chance of planting when the county government can do something," Kivasu said.

Kivasu said elected leaders should provide tangible solutions aimed at building capacities of households and move away from the relief food dependency syndrome every season whenever there is looming famine.
