The government should hasten sensitization against discrimination of persons living with disabilities, says Lukas Mwanzia.
Mwanzia said the rate at which physically challenged persons were discriminated against in Machakos County was sickening.
“There is a lot of discrimination of people living with disabilities, this should seize with immediate effect through the state’s intervention,” said Mwanzia.
Mwanzia who suffers from visual impairment is a student at Thika School for the Blind.
He spoke to this writer in Athi River on Friday.
“We sit for the same examinations with those without disabilities, do same business with them among other things hence should not be looked down upon. Disability is not inability,” said Mwanzia.
He said there are many disabled people who are prosperous and doing well in various different sectors across the country.
“Say NO to discrimination of people living with disabilities,” added Mwanzia.
Mwanzia urged the Machakos Government to support children living with disabilities education through sponsorships.
He said the lot’s education is expensive since they use expensive learning aids and equipment in their studies.
Mwanzia said it is only through education that such group of people will in future become credible self-reliance and reduce rates of the disabled people begging on streets across the country.
