The residents of Matuu town have called upon the governor of Machakos county to put up road bumps in the town to reduce accidents.
Speaking on Monday in Matuu town, the Yatta and Masinga sub-county Secretary of Chamber of Commerce Patrick Kyalo Nzioka stated that the area has been witnessing a series of accidents.
Nzioka further stated that most of the accidents are as a result of overspeeding.
"The business people are facing daily dangers despite promises by the county government to build speed bumps after they were requested by the chamber of commerce," added Nzioka.
According to Nzioka, speed bumps are necessary in Matuu town so as reduce the number of crashes as speeding motorists will be forced to slow down.
He further stated that the county governments need to prioritise the issue as more lives of innocent pedestrians and motorists continue to be lost.
"We pay taxes as required and therefore, we are entitled to receive services form our government," he added.
This comes less than a week after a motorcyclist lost his life in Matuu town following an head-on collision with a probox vehicle.
Recently, the residents of Kithimani town in Yatta sub-county also took matters to their hands and built speed bumps on the Kithimani-Machakos road.
