Athi River Member of County Assembly Michael Mutua has urged Machakos University graduates to start business enterprises instead of waiting to be employed.
Speaking when he addressed youths at Athi River town on Thursday, Mutua urged graduates to use the skills they have to start business.
He said graduates have knowledge and skills that they can use to create job opportunities instead of waiting to be given jobs.
“It is time graduates realised that their are no jobs in the market, they should instead use the skills they got from university to start business ventures,” said Mutua.
The MCA added that thousands of graduates are released to the market every year making employment opportunities scarce.
Mutua further urged graduates to form groups and apply for Uwezo funds to start business.
He noted that since graduates have ideas, it will be easy for them to start business ventures and manage them well.
Mutua asked Machakos government to put aside more funds which should be used to fund entrepreneurial ideas.
He said that most youths in the county have business and development ideas which if funded will help curb unemployment.
