A form four student at Machakos boys High School is one among the five people who drowned in Enziu River on Sunday. The student and the other three were on board a Toyota Probox vehicle en-route to Nuu in Mwingi East, Kitui County when the probox was swept away by the river which had burst its banks.

The Machakos Boys High School student’s body alongside the other four who drowned in the river is being searched by the officers from the National Unit of Disaster Management and Kenya Red Cross

Gilbert Nyale, an officer from the National Disaster Operations Centre said that they will be working in conjunction with the Kenya Red Cross and the county government of Kitui in order to trace bodies of the five people who drowned at River Enziu.

“We are very perplexed by what has happened here. Losing five lives is losing a lot as a nation. However, we are working around the clock to retrieve the bodies from the river,” said Nyale.

Kang’ali Wambua, who is the mother of the missing Machakos Boys high school form four candidate said that her son was her only hope, and the only thing she got.

“In the last moments with my son, we shared a meal together. It pains me to think that I will never see him again,” said Wambua.

Peter Kisovo Kang’ali, was a partial orphan at Machakos Boys secondary school and he was being sponsored by the Equity Banks wings to fly owing to his poor background, as depicted by her mother’s inability to speak in either English or Swahili.
