If you are a regular user of Machakos-Nairobi highway, you have probably seen some 'traffic police' in dark blue trousers and white shirts written 'Machakos inspectorate' controlling flow of traffic.
These 'traffic police' are commonly seen along the busy Mombasa road especially in places where there is a junction. They work diligently directing vehicles to make sure there is a constant smooth flow of vehicles.
They also attend to broken down vehicles, accidents and they also settle disputes among motorists. Since they started manning and putting some sense into rogue motorists, the notorious traffic snarl up that is usually common with heavy trailers near Athi River and Mlolongo areas is now manageable.
This is a step in the right direction because the county of Machakos loses millions of shillings through traffic jam.
Long vehicles carrying transit goods from the ports of Mombasa get stuck for many hours in Mlolongo. With Machakos inspectorate 'traffic police,' motorists can now breath fresh air.
