A caucus of leaders from Machakos County have called for the Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka's retirement from politics.
The leaders drawn from political, professional and religious groups across the county said Kalonzo made fatal political blander by snubbing NASA leader Raila Odinga's inauguration at Uhuru Park in Nairobi on Tuesday.
Addressing the press in Machakos town on Thursday, the leaders led by former Machakos County Assembly minority leader Thomas Kasoa said Kalonzo betrayed Raila by failing to turn up for the controversial oath.
Raila took an oath of office as the Peoples' President in his deputy Kalonzo Musyoka's absentia.
"Having betrayed Raila in the swearing, it is now clear that there is no other national leader or community left for Kalonzo to work with,” Kasoa Said.
Kasoa said the Kamba community was alive to the fact that Kalonzo’s chances of ever becoming the president or even deputy president had completely diminished after his no-show at Uhuru Park.
“We are requesting Kalonzo, and will send a delegation of elders to talk to him so that he may retire honorably from politics,” he said adding that the former VP’s overall political image was irreparably damaged.
The leaders said they would focus on supporting Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua to be the torch bearer of the Kamba nation.
“Dr. Mutua is the only other Kamba leader who has declared an interest in the presidency come 2022 and as a community, we will mobilize all our 2 million voters to rally behind him," said Kasoa.
