Machakos County Mau Mau veterans on Wednesday called for respect among Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua and his Deputy Bernard Kiala.

Speaking during a Mau Mau association meeting in Mwala, the association chairman, Johnson Kieti, said leaders in Machakos should avoid engaging in hate speech against one another.

"Elected leaders should avoid engaging in hate speech and should instead strive to settle their differences amicably and with respect. They should strive to be peace keepers,” said Kieti.

Kieti further stated the county government should continue the fight against corruption at all costs in a bid to ensure improved service delivery, without misuse funds meant for development.

"As 'mashujaa' we support Governor Mutua's move of auditing the lifestyle of each leader to ensure no one uses funds meant for residents to enrich themselves," he added.

Kieti also condemned the examination malpractices surrounding the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, stating that the matter should be investigated and those responsible for the leakage brought to book.
