The County Government of Machakos has been told to employ manageable staff to reduce its wage bill alongside improving relationship with employees.
Speaking at a public participation for budget financial year 2015/16 in Mlolongo/Syiokimau Ward on Monday, Amina Mutiso, nominated MCA, said the county's wage bill is high hence taking up a lot of the of tax payers' money.
Mutiso attributed the situation to high numbers of human resources engaged by the government some of who she claimed had not been properly hired since they do not have job appointment letters.
"The county government should employ the staff it can effectively manage to reduce its wage bill and settle issues surrounding ineffective payments of its workers that has resulted to several protests," said Mutiso.
She said it was pointless to engage high numbers at the expense of projects implementation, only for the same workers to protest against delays or failure in their salary payment thereby exposing the county's leadership to bad light.
The MCA said county residents should be hired and assigned to serve in their respective sub counties in order to reduce costs.
Teddy Munovi, a political adviser at the office of the governor, Machakos County who addressed the same forum said leaders and members of the public should point out real issues for solution instead of engaging in criticism of fashion.
"Let us positively criticize the county government. We should avoid baselessly criticizing the county’s leadership for self vested reasons," said Munovi.
Munovi said Governor Alfred Mutua was widely consulting with relevant county leaders to ensure he fulfills all promises contained in his campaign manifesto before the end of his first term in office.
He lauded Mavoko residents for turning up in numbers in public participation forums and productively engaging with officials from the county government in the budget making process for the year 2015/16.
