Several members of Machakos county assembly have called for a repeat of Machakos County Finance Bill Public participation exercise citing low key attendance as well as miscommunication.
Mitaboni MCA Fredrick Mbuva in an interview noted that the Friday exercise didn't bear fruits as expected.
Mr. Mbuva observed that the sector holders were not well represented saying that the attendance was poor due to poor sensitization. He recommended that the exercise be conducted as per wards for better results.
"This exercise isn't just done for formality purposes but to get people's views",Said Mbuva.
Mbuva's sentiments were seconded by Mbiuni MCA in mwala subcounty Joseph Wambua who asserted that the exercise was a total failure.
In many areas where the exercise was held only a handful of residents attended.
In Mavoko subcounty the exercise was stalled after the few residents who had attended questioned the quorum.
The residents demanded that the exercise be rescheduled to enable majority of the traders attend and participate.
Efforts of Machakos County Director of Emergency Services David Mwongela to persuade the residents to continue with the exercise were futile after they maintained it had to be stopped and locals be mobilized.
They said the government had a tendency of conducting public participation exercises in the region without engaging majority of the residents.
