The exercise that was carried out this week was presided over by Jackson Kala, the head of Public Service Labour and ICT in Machakos County, who explained that county residents in their respective wards were involved in the selection exercise.

Speaking to journalists, Matungulu West MCA Magdalene Ndawa complained that there was no proper representation reflected in the choosing of the Committee members.

“The committee members that have been selected are not evenly representing the wards. In Matungulu, there are four locations, but two people from the same location have been selected hence leaving one location unrepresented,” said Ndawa.

Ndawa further said that the bursary committees were very crucial units in the county, and should not be politicized.

“Bursary committee should be a unit that can be trusted by the residents to deliver services in a fair manner. This is not reflected in the current committee as it is more like a committee to steer up the 2017 political campaign,” said Ndawa.

Machakos Central MCA Cornelius Kitheka on Wednesday also confirmed that his Ward had already selected their committee that is already in progress, and further stated that he did not recognize the new committee.

“The selection of the committee was null and void. We already have a working Committee and what we expected on Monday was a confirmation of the already chosen existing members,” said Cornelius.
