This was revealed by NHIF Manager in charge of operations, Mr. Gibson Muhuru in Machakos on Thursday during a sensitization tour of the new comprehensive medical insurance scheme for civil servants and disciplined services.

Muhuhu said some members have been dishonest with the scheme by claiming dues that were used in treatment of other people besides the principal member and the declared dependents.

Other members claimed optical services and devices, including glasses and frames for friends among other benefits which contravened provisions of the scheme, he added.

“It’s such a shame members asking for medical appeals and harambees when treatment or claims have been paid by NHIF,” he lamented.

He warned that the penalties were very severe for those involved in the scam including dismissal from work as well as criminal prosecution for impersonation.

He urged NHIF members to disclose the benefits of the scheme to their next of kin and family members to avoid the burden of medical

harambees which impoverished members while they could get unlimited inpatient and outpatient medical cover and burial expenses.

He urged members to update their profiles and seek any assistance from NHIF offices countrywide.
