Machakos electorates have lost faith and trust in Governor Alfred Mutua, says Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka.
Munyaka criticized the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader for launching development projects outside the county using locals' taxes as Machakos residents continue languishing in abject poverty.
He addressed the press at a burial in his constituency on Saturday.
Munyaka said the governor ought to have fully developed his county before implementing projects in other counties.
"Charity begins at home, Mutua can't build houses in neighboring counties when his people haven't felt a pinch of development yet. First, he should develop Machakos to win the hearts of Kenyans," Munyaka said.
This is after Mutua built a house for an old couple in Nyeri County during his benchmarking tour last month.
The third term legislature said Mutua's recent behavior may cost him his seat when a by-election is called in Machakos County.
"Mutua's behavior has made him lose ground in Machakos, people have lost faith in him. I'm afraid he may not make it in the by-election," Munyaka said.
The Court of Appeal nullified Mutua's August 8, 2018 re-election last Friday on grounds that the results announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision (IEBC) failed the constitutional test.
The verdict brewed controversy among Machakos leaders and residents throwing the county in a campaign mood.
