Immediate former national treasurer of Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Urbanus Mutisya and the executive secretary of the unions Kangundo branch, Daniel Nginga have both declared their interest in contesting for political seats.

Mr Mutisya is eyeing Machakos Town parliamentary seat currently held by Victor Munyaka, while Nginga seeks to unseat Stephen Mule as the next MP for Matungulu.

The two unionists are not newcomers in the regions power politics. In the last general elections, Mutisya who contested the same seat on wiper party ticket came second to Dr Munyaka after the latter decamped to Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) after he was allegedly rigged out in the wiper nominations.

However, Dr Munyaka recaptured the seat with a landslide win. On the other hand, Nginga will also face off with his former competitors, who have also declared to oppose Mules second term as Matungulu MP.

They include Businessmen Thomas Musau and Dr Charles Kilonzo. Mule, who contested on a wiper party ticket, successfully defended his seat after an election petition filed by his archrivals Thomas Musau, Moffat Maitha and Stephen Muli succeeded but he beat them at the ballot.

The two aspirants will be banking on their immense influence within Knut membership from where they hope to draw considerable support.
