A middle aged man died Monday morning after the quarry he was working in at Kalusya mines at Lukenya, Machakos County, curved in.
The man who is also said to be a mason was excavating contraction blocks at the site when he met his death.
Joint effort of police and area residents saw a huge rock which weighed at approximately 20 tones that had fallen on the man removed.
His body was finally recovered in a process that lasted for over three hours.
Area Chief Tirus Musyoka, while confirming the incident, warned quarry workers to desist from excavating construction stones during the rainy season when the soil is loose.
“I want to thank the residents who volunteered to work with the police in search of the man's body,” said Musyoka.
The body of the man was taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital morgue by police officers.
At the same time Kalusya dam is reported to have broken its banks following the ongoing heavy rains at the area and its water dispersing to nearby rivers.
