Over 500 residents of Machakos County have been sensitized on East African Legislative Assembly, EALA.
Speaking during the sensitization workshop at Inter Leisure Hotel in Athi River town on Thursday, the assembly’s coordinator Peter Mathuki said the awareness meeting was meant to make the residents get informed on EALA.
“This meeting was meant to engage Machakos residents in a discussion on EALA and make them understand benefits that come from East Africa Community,” said Mathuki.
Mathuki said the residents were enlightened on how to do business and access jobs across the region in the six member states.
He said the meeting enabled the residents from Mavoko, Kathiani, Machakos, Matungulu, Kangundo, Masinga and Yatta sub-counties know their representatives at the legislative assembly and roles they can play as citizens from member states.
Mathuki encouraged the residents to engage in serious businesses by exporting fruits, honey, hand crafts among other products to other countries across East Africa.
He urged youth and women to take advantage of opportunities available in the countries to improve their livelihoods.
Ten legislators from East African Legislative Assembly were present with representations from Kenya,Tanzania, Uganda and Burundi.
