Speaking on Thursday at Kyondoni Primary School in Masinga Sub-county Machakos County during the Universal Children’s Day, Deputy County Commissioner Stella Nguirwa said that many incidences of violation of child rights were hidden by Village elders and others by the police.

Several celebrations were held in several parts of the Country and Internationally to mark the important day whose main aim is to address children rights violation.

“Let us all stand and fight cases of child abuse. Report any case that you witness so that we can clear such incidences in the county and country in general,” said Nguirwa.

Addressing the residents, Lucy Muraguri from Plan International Kenya said that a commission should be established to investigate the cases that were not reported or were reported but were not acted on was taken upon.

She further said that cases of rape have been in the rise in Kenya and argued all the residents to be responsible in their daily activities.

The day was proposed by the United Nations Assembly, which suggested to governments that the Day be observed on the date and in the way which each considers appropriate.

On his message across the world on the celebrations, UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon said children’s rights should be respected at all times.

"The one thing all children have in common is their rights. Every child has the right to survive and thrive, to be educated, to be free from violence and abuse, to participate and to be heard," said Moon.
