Machakos county Senatorial aspirant Henry Kioko has called for support to local tourism.
This comes at a day when the government hosted the Tourism summit at State House Mombasa that brought together stakeholders in the tourism industry.
Kioko called on governor Mutua, key tourism stakeholders, industry investors and political leaders to unite in addressing issues including promoting local tourism, economic growth and political stability of Machakos county.
The aspirant spoke to the media after meeting Felix Wambua the founder of Wamunyu Cultural Festival at Wamunyu market. The inaugural Wamunyu Cultural Festival will be held on September 28, 2016 at Wamunyu town and it will bring together legendary handcrafts artists and Kamba traditional dancers to celebrate Kamba heritage.
"It's unfortunate such a historical festival that traces our heritage has received minimum support from Machakos leaders," he said. Kioko said Machakos tourism package includes cultural museums that collect and conserves artifacts, film making, sports tourism, water sports at Masinga dam and cultural festivals.
He called upon the residents of Machakos to visit Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park for picnic, game viewing, camping and mountain climbing among other attraction sites in the county.
