Machakos county government is set to develop an online portal where health workers will be required to sign in when reporting to work.
This move, according to governor Alfred Mutua is aimed at curbing employee absenteeism in health centres.
In his address to the press on Thursday, Mutua accused health practitioners in the county of absenteeism where they reportedly attend to their private clinics instead of reporting to their work stations.
"Because we are aware that some of our doctors are out there everyday, busy working in private clinics instead of coming to work, we are instituting a digital log in and log out system tied to payroll, to ensure doctors report in and out of duty as rostered," Mutua said.
"This is a system similar to what is used by private hospitals Kenya, doctors in London, New York, Cape Town, Sydney, Singapore and other areas of the world," he added.
