If successfully operationalized, the county will become the first devolved unit to have such an a department.

Governor Alfred Mutua on Thursday said corruption in his government would be fought against.

"I presided over a one day senior staff workshop to discuss the Machakos development agenda," he said after holding a meeting drawing senior county officials on Thursday.

"The workshop comprised of county ministers, government advisors, chief officers, directors and their assistants as well as departmental heads. I outlined a number of measures key to delivering realistic returns to our people."

"Besides, I encouraged my officers to commit themselves to deliver on the Maendeleo Chap Chap Programme. In the past few weeks, my cabinet has held numerous sessions and made a number of resolutions, including the approval for the establishment of a county Anti-Corruption Department and the Quality Assurance Directorate to check on issues of graft and inefficiency among county officials."

The development comes one year after the county chief suspended several officers following corruption allegations leveled against them.

Those suspended included two senior officers who were sent on a three-month compulsory leave pending investigations into their case.

They included Chief Executive Committee members Francis Maliti (Water) and Larry Wambua (Public Service).

They were sent parking amid the changes which he said were over lethargy, corruption, insubordination, sabotage and laxity.

"If you want to be corrupt, move away from Machakos," he said at a press conference at his office in Machakos town as he asked county staff to either get on board with his Maendeleo Chap Chap ideology or quit.
