President Uhuru Kenyatta has said that Machakos county will hold Heroes day on October 20, 2016.

He said this today June 1, 2016 during Madaraka day celebrations in Afraha Stadium, Nakuru.

In December last year, President Kenyatta announced that two of the three national holidays will be hosted by counties other than Nairobi on a rotational basis, the three being Madaraka Day, Mashujaa Day in October and Jamhuri Day in December.

June 1 is the day Kenya attained internal self-rule preceding full independence from the United Kingdom on December 12, 1963.

President Uhuru led the country in celebrating Madaraka day which was held for the first time outside Nairobi at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.
