Residents of Machakos town have a reason to smile since the Malova dam began overflowing with water thus saving the town from water shortage.
Machakos town have for several months now experienced water shortage after the dam went dry during the dry season forcing them to buy water expensively from vendors at Kshs. 20 per twenty litre jerrican.
Residents in the town who couldn't hide their joy said that the drying of the dam has been a big inconvenience in the town hence crippling businesses around.
"Since shortage of water hit the town, we have been forced to buy water at an expensive fee bringing down our businesses slowly by slowly," said John Kiilu, a hotel owner.
"As the dam is overflowing with water due to the heavy rains, we are hoping that our businesses will flourish once again," he added.
However these residents blamed the county government for the water shortage and they further urged the relevant authorities to be prepared for future water shortage situations and to set aside funds to deal with the situation.
