Machakos university lecturers and staff joined their counterparts from across the country in their strike that commenced Thursday.

The industrial action has commenced in all universities in the country. The strike involves members of the Kenya University Staff Union (KUSU), University Academic Staff Union (UASU) and the Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals and Allied Workers (KUDHEIHA). 

The unions want their basic salary and house allowance increased by 50% to match that of their counterparts in the region.

Njoki Ndungu led university staff from Machakos university in demonstrations where they demanded implementation of the CBA signed by the government.

They vowed not to resume work until the CBA is fully implemented. The strike went on despite court order barring the strike.

The Doctor's strike enters its 47th day as they demand honoring of a CBA signed by the government that would lead to salary increments.

The strike has resulted in loss of lives and a hard time for patients.
