The Independent Election and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has expressed extremely low voter registration in two weeks compared to the targeted previous number. 

The Machakos region IEBC coordinator Annastacia Mutua has raised concern over the number of persons registered in the past two weeks in Machakos county. 

The people who have turned out to register as in Machakos County up to Thursday evening is 8,953 in comparison with the expected 31,789 up to the same time. 

According to a report sent from the office of IEBC offices, Machakos county comes second after Kitui while Makueni comes third respectively.

"From lower Eastern, Kitui has up to today registered 9,353 out of the possible target 32,489.

In Machakos county voter registration has recorded 8,953 in comparison with the expected 31,789.

Elsewhere in Makueni county only 5,990 voters registered out of the possible 22709. 

Speaking to the Kangundo sub-county coordinator Fidelis Kitili, came out to urge religious and political leaders to persist on the importance of voter registration. 

"The voter registration turn out is very low, pastors, priests and elected leaders should go the grassroots and teach their followers on voter registration importance," said Kitili.

Voter registration exercise begun on February 15, 2016 and is a one month exercise expected to end on March 15, 2016 in preparation for the 2015 general elections.
