Machakos women representative Susan Musyoka has encouraged women in the county to apply for soft bank loans and invest more in business.

Addressing women groups at Athi River on Friday, Musyoka said that banks are offering soft loans which women should apply for.

She said that women will be able to promote their businesses when they have access to capital.

The women rep noted that lack of capital has denied many women a chance to do business.

Musyoka said that poverty and other economic challenges facing the county will be tackled if women are empowered.

“I want to encourage women across Machakos County to apply for soft loans being given by banks and other institutions in order to promote their ventures,” she said.

Musyoka also encouraged women to from groups and apply for Uwezo funds.

She noted that the county has funds that have not been utilised saying that it will be an opportunity for women to grow.

Musyoka observed at least 20 per cent of women in the county have applied for the funds.

The women rep lauded the national government efforts to empower women.

She urged county governments to emulate such initiatives and help boost the living standards of women.

Musyoka at the same time asked Machakos women to be on the frontline and demand for change.

She said that many things are going wrong in the society and that women must come out and speak against them.

Musyoka cited homosexuality, prostitution and other social evils which she said need to be condemned and stamped out of the society.
