The chairperson said women must engage with the county government is they want to be empowered socio-economically.

She noted that the number of women who have applied for Uwezo Fund is very low adding that their future will remain blink if they fail to act.

Speaking to women at Machakos town yesterday, the chairperson said “The number of women in Machakos seeking development funds is very low".

Mutinda however blamed the county government for failing to sensitize women on the existence of Uwezo Fund.

She said many of them have no clue that the Fund exists and is meant for their empowerment.

“The county government is partly to blame for failing to sensitise us women on the availability of the Fund,” she said.

The MYWO chair urged the county government to put the interests of women first and initiate programmes that will empower them.

She said women have a right to be directly involved in key decisions being made by county top leaders.

The chairperson pledged to spearhead and fight for the interests and welfare of all Machakos women.
