Susan Musyoka, the women representative in Machakos county on Sunday expressed her opinion concerning the paternity law that was passed several weeks ago which gave children the right to bare their biological fathers name even if they are born out of wedlock.
Speaking in a public meeting in Vyulya in Mwala sub-county, Susan said that that law, that stirred different feelings and opinions from different groups of people and individuals, is fair to the innocent child who deserves the right to know and be identified by both parents.
"The child was not involved in the disagreements that come in between parties that lead to the parents not getting married and has the blood of both parents and therefore there is no point of denying them the surname," explained Susan.
She however said that women should not misuse the law into trapping men with unplanned pregnancies.
Susan encouraged family planning saying that it is good for women to wait until they are in an able position to raise a child before getting pregnant.
She also urged parents, teachers, clergy and other guardians to involve their children in sex education especially the girl child to avoid early and unplanned pregnancies.
