A section of Youths in Machakos County has launched a peace movement which is aimed at advocating for peaceful co existence among residents of the entire Ukambani, while campaigning for the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Led by Mr Lemi Muia who unsuccessfully vied for Machakos Governorship under Jubilee party ticket, the youth vowed to take a message of peace in all parts of the Ukambani, claiming that Kamba Community is known peace and should accommodate every other person despite political diversities.Speaking in Athi River town on Tuesday, Mr Muia who was flagged by hundreds of the youth under the umbrella of Mount Kenya United Lower Eastern Association, the group urged all Jubilee supporters in the region to keep calm despite political tensions exuding confidence that President Kenyatta will recapture his seat.Dubbed Brotherhood movement, the group launched campaigns for President Kenyatta vowing to campaign in all corners of Ukambani to ensure a win in the forthcoming repeat poll.“We are following footsteps of our bothers President Uhuru and his deputy Ruto as peace crusaders and development advocates,” said Lemi.He said that the brotherhood movement will be working with Jubilee Government calling on the UhuRuto duo to consider working closely with Churches and establish a kitty to support the less fortunate in the society.The youth affirmed the fact that Uhuru had won fairly and squarely courtesy of the efforts by grassroots leaders, both the ones that won and lost in the August 8 polls.He revisited the looming supremacy battles between some leaders in the region saying that “ President does not need point men in the region saying, all what Uhuru Kenyatta want is votes,” said Lemi.There has been a different grouping in Ukambani fronting Jubilee campaigns, one led by Businessman Peter Muthoka which comprises all the three members of parliament who were elected under Jubilee. Another group is led by Former Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu.
