Youths, Persons with disabilities and women in Machakos County have been encouraged to feel free and conduct business with the government.
Speaking to the press yesterday at her office, county Youths Welfare Executive Ruth Mutua said that the county has started various programmes where youths should feel free to take part in.
She said that the government is banking on young people as the future leaders and that they should come out and seek support.
“We want to challenge young people to come out and work with us as we seek to provide quality and efficient services to the people,” she said.
The executive said that the county has set aside enough money to spearhead youths and women empowerment. She said that the existence of the Uwezo Fund is a clear indication that the government is keen to curb unemployment.
Mutua however raised concerns saying that most youths, women and disabled persons from the county have applied for development funds.
She said that unemployment and poverty will be curbed if the youths are willing and ready to take up government funds.
The executive blamed low application of lack of knowledge about the existence of the funds. “We have realized that most youths do not know about the funds being given out by the county and the national government,” she said.
Mutua said that the county has organized forums where youths will be enlighten on the existence of the funds and other projects being carried out by the county government.
She at the same time challenged youths to take part in sports saying it has the potential of earning them income.
The executive said that the county has invested a lot of money to improve sporting facilities in the county with the aim of nurturing sporting talents.
