Royal Media Services owner S.K. Macharia claims that retired President Mwai Kibaki lost in the highly contested 2007 elections despite being sworn in for the second term.
Chaos broke out across the country after opposition leader Raila Odinga disowned the results, leading to the death of over 1000 people and subsequent displacement of thousands of people.
In his submission to the Senate Legal Committee over disputed amendments to the election laws, Macharia revealed that his company was monitoring results from every polling centre.
“The Royal Media Services has been monitoring national polls since 90s and that is done through mobile satellites and correspondents in all polling stations,” he told Amos Wako led committee.
“Our system collected verifiable data which showed that whoever was declared the president was not the actual winner. Our electronic system worked well and the results are still intact in our records,” he added.
The media mogul maintained that Media Owners Association supports electronic voting and transmission for this year’s election to avoid cases of rigging.
