Boda boda riders from Maella Ward, Naivasha sub-county have formed a Sacco in a bid to help them save and get loans to improve their business.
Speaking at Kongoni shopping centre on Thursday, Jame Macharia, the chairman of Maella Bodaboda Riders Sacco said that the entity is intended to mobilise all bodaboda operators to have a common vehicle that would help them in several aspects of life and improve their livelihoods.
“The Sacco will enable us to ensure our members are safeguarded against road accidents and enabling them to access loans,” said Macharia.
He further added that the members would start off with savings of as little as Sh100 per day, and increase as the Sacco grows.
“Since the Sacco has 78 members, we will start from humble savings and increase the savings after mobilising other riders,” said Macharia.
Macharia further urged more bodaboda operators to join the Sacco to achieve its objective, which is aimed at bettering the lives of their members.
“We want more bodaboda operators to join this Sacco to make it a powerful investment vehicle,” added Macharia.
He also said that the Sacco would promote training to its members to minimise road accidents.
“Many of accidents that are being witnessed by bodaboda operators are attributed to lack of training,” said Macharia, who also noted that the operators should be careful during this festive season and obey traffic rules.
