Mavoko Sub-County Maendeleo ya Wanawake chairperson, Angeline Maloza, on Sunday claimed her life is in danger called for police protection.
Addressing the press in Athi River Town, Maloza said she had been getting threats from certain people close to a rape suspect whose controversial release from Athi River police cells two hours after his arrest was recently protested by women from Athi River town.
According to Maloza, the people known to her had victimised her for mobilising women from the town to demonstrate against the man who allegedly defiled a minor. She said she had recorded statement at the Athi River Police Station but no action had been taken hence suspected the cartel had colluded with security agents.
Commenting on the issue, Athi River police boss, Kizito Mutoro, said he was not aware of such allegations and information of threats.
Mutoro said that the complainant should immediately report the matter to the police station for immediate intervention.
"I am neither aware of the allegations of police colluding with the said persons nor threats allegedly issued to the women leader, that is criminal and she therefore needs to record statements with the police immediately for speedy intervention," said Mutoro.
Mutoro however said that the complainant should avoid giving circumstantial evidence and instead give primary evidence based on facts to ease the process.
"She should not say a group of people or a cartel threatened her, she should be factual and mention the individual or the people by names to ease the process," said Mutoro.
The police boss said residents should seize from threatening their fellows since it amounted to criminal offense and could lead to prosecution for justice to be done.
