KICC chairperson and former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara has yet again questioned the popularity of the incumbent Kisii Senator Chris Obure accusing him of rigging him out in the 2013 senatorial elections.

The two engaged in a court battle after the election in which the Kisumu High Court ruled in favour of Obure, but the duo have been involved in a war of words in the past four years.

In his renewed attack on the Senator, Omingo on Sunday poked holes in the recent loss of the Jubilee Party in the Nyacheki ward by-election, saying the results reflected that the Senator was not popular even in his own backyard.

“Obure did not win the 2013 polls but only reverted to rigging. He managed though through the uncouth justice system in the country but I have since moved on. I believe that I beat him squarely and he knows that,” he claimed.

“He was supporting a Jubilee candidate in Nyacheki and you all saw what happened. Therefore, the loss confirms that he cannot even manage a victory in Bobasi constituency where he comes from. I don’t fear him and we have a greater plan to disorient his Obomo Bwomogusii group,” he said.

Magara did not, however, state his preferred seat in the August 2017 polls with sources indicating that he could deputise Governor James Ongwae.

However, Obure in a phone call, denied the allegations, and accused Omingo of fear ahead of next year's elections.

“I think the High Court found no rigging as he claims. I expected him then to appeal which he did not. I believe this is just fear,” he said.
