Magarini constituency leaders have put National Government lands officials on notice for allegedly engaging in the irregular allocation of lands at the expense of the locals.
They attributed the prolonged land irregularities in the area to officers who have overstayed for over 20 years.
Area Member of Parliament Michael Kingi together with Adu Ward member of county Assembly Stanley Kenga and his Gongoni counterpart Albert Kiraga said the lands officers contribute to the land problems in the area.
Speaking during county head of departments meeting in Magarini Sub County at Gongoni area on Friday evening the legislator said some officers especially settlement officers mandated to allocate land in schemes use corrupt means to allocate land to outsiders at the expense of the locals.
“National government department of lands officers have employed over 20 years ago, they are used to the area, they know every corner and use Magarini area to sell land,’’ he said.
In the settlement schemes, Kingi said the officers only give out land to a few locals and the lion’s share goes to people from outside.
He called on the long-serving officers to change or else they will push for their immediate transfers.
The Adu Ward MCA on his part said it was sad to see the officers giving documents with false information whenever allocating land.
Kenga said in some cases the lands officials during settlement allocate 12,000 acres to locals then when tittle deed comes out they end up having only 5000 acres.
“Some of the locals end up missing title deeds as their names do not appear in the list during the final process,’’ he said.Magarini is among the areas with high poverty levels forcing many residents to depend on relief food.Ends
