National Super Alliance (NASA) CEO Norman Magaya has linked Deputy President William Samoei Ruto to the massive resignation by IEBC officials.
Magaya said the massive exit by IEBC officials was caused by Ruto's attempts to forcefully reinstate the commission's Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba who is presently in a compulsory leaf prescribed to him by the commission's chairman Wafula Chebukati.
He insinuated that DP Ruto sponsored the resignation of the officers to show that they want Chiloba back, they can not work with the commission in absence of Chiloba and to show that the move by Chebukati to send Chiloba to a compulsory leave wasn't right.
"The Ruto wing of IEBC has quit simply because Ruto wants Chiloba back by all means. It is either Chiloba is reinstated or the entire commission goes down. Savage I must say," Magaya said.
He further said that there can only be neutrality in the commission if the commissioners are nominated by various political parties rather than being appointed by the government.
"Henceforth, political parties should nominate IEBC Commissioners. Neutrality & impartiality in Kenyan electoral process is a fallacy. Every Kenyan has an entrenched political inclination... Let's stop the lie," he added.
Three commissioners, Vice-chair Connie Maina, Paul Kurgat, and Margaret Mwachanya on Monday documented and presented their resignation days after Chiloba was sent for a compulsory leaf.
