Nairobi governor Evans Kidero’s political future was dealt a big blow Thursday after county assembly speaker Alex Magelo approved an impeachment motion against him.
Kidero’s impeachment motion was drafted in August as MCAs sought to dethrone Kidero over accusations of constitutional violation and misappropriation of county funds.
The motion will be forwarded Thursday evening by Viwandani MCA Sam Nyang’wara who comes from Kidero’s ODM party.
Once the motion is tabled, it will be presented to the House Business Committee which will then allocate it a date for debate by MCAs.
According to the Star, more than 56 Jubilee and Cord MCAs have already signed the petition to oust Kidero.
"Since we joined the assembly in 2013, we have been passing budgets but have not seen anything happening in our wards. There are no tangible projects by the county government," said Nyang’wara.
