Magina bodaboda operators have expressed concern over alleged harassment by law enforcers.
The operators, through their Chairman Amos Ngugi said that they are going a difficulty time with law enforcement officers.
“Police have been harassing us for minor offences. They arrest us over small mistakes and they usually want to take bribes,” said Ngugi.
Ngugi says that in spite of complying with traffic regulations, the officers continue harassing them.
Ngugi however urged motor cycles riders to comply with all traffic rules to avoid constant confrontation with police.
“Bodaboda operators should have necessary traffics documents like insurance and wearing helmets,” said Ngugi.
He called on the traffic officers to stop harassing them, as many are servicing loans they took to buy motorcycles and the harassment affects their repayments.
“Bodaboda industry has created employment opportunities for youth and denying them their livelihood will make some to indulge into crimes,” added Ngugi.
Ngugi also said that there is need for Kijabe boda boda operators to form a large Sacco that would enable them pool their savings together.
“I urge all local motorcycle riders in Kijabe Ward to come together and form one umbrella which will be strong enough to cater for our needs,” said Ngugi.
They were speaking at Magina Shopping Center, Kijabe Ward.
