A magistrate scampered for safety after a middle-aged woman attempted to attack him for making a ruling that she did not prefer.

Mombasa Senior Resident Magistrate Edgar Kagoni jumped out of his seat and dashed to the chambers as the woman struggled to grab him, People Daily reports.

According to the paper, the woman was unhappy with the release of a man charged with defiling her two daughters was acquitted for lack of evidence.

The mother of the two minors, aged 5 and 10 years-old, disrupted the court proceedings for 30 minutes as she shouted and wailed uncontrollably.

The court orderlies called in for more police officers who helped to eject the woman from the courtroom. The magistrate dismissed the case saying the prosecution had failed to prove a case against the accused beyond any reasonable doubt. 

The woman accused Kagoni of being compromised by the accused at the expense of her children. 

“Haki iko wapi nataka haki ifanyike mimi maskini wa mungu nitasaidika wapi kama hapa sijapata haki” (Where is justice, I want to see justice, where will a poor person like me get justice if I cannot get it here), the woman wailed as quoted by People Daily. The accused had denied two counts of defilement and indecent assault. 

The incident allegedly happened at Birikani area of Changamwe on diverse dates between February 2, 2014 and February 5, 2015. (
