The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board (KMPDB) Chairman Prof George Magoha has quit the task force that is investigating the error at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) as a result of a conflict of interest.
Prof Magoha, who also doubles up as the KNEC Chairperson, said that the consultant neurosurgeon at the time which the surgery took place, Dr Michael Magoha was his son.
He further said that Prof Alice Mutungi who his the vice chair of KMDPB will take charge in his place.
“It is the board that will investigate the matter. I will not be directly involved. I am not the board and the board is not Magoha.
“I am not even a member of the investigation committee,” Magoha said as quoted by the nation.
Health Cabinet Secretary Cicily Kariuki had tasked the board to investigate the matter in which a brain surgery was conducted on a wrong patient.
On the spot of the botched operation is the consultant Dr Magoha, the neurosurgery student who conducted the operation, the ward nurse, the theatre recieving nurse and the anaesthetist.
The other four were suspended other than the consultant Dr Magoha. This resulted to masters students to at the facility to go on strike.
