Tea farmers from Magombo area in Nyamira have welcomed the move by the county government to renovate Magombo-Nyaikuru road given its importance in terms of transportation in the region.

Speaking on Wednesday during the official launching of the construction of the 15km feeder road, farmers led by Magombo tea buying centre chairman Kennedy Nyamongo hailed area MCA Ezra Mochiemo for initiating the project.

According to them, transportation of the tea to the nearby Giachore tea factory will be easy after years of struggles especially during the rainy season.

“This is a dream come true for the peasant farmers in this region. We have been facing the transportation crisis, making the company ask for extra coins from us due to inaccessibility of the road. We are really happy with the county government for this massive program,” said Nyamongo.

However, they urged the contractor to expedite the construction process due to expected short rains in the months of September and October.

“We are approaching another rainy season hence the contractors should consider expediting the process to avoid any inconveniences. It will be difficult to use the road especially when construction is ongoing,” he said.

Mochiemo who also chairs public accounts committee in the assembly urged residents to give the county leadership humble time to develop the region.

“Devolution is new and starting it isn’t easy. Let us be patient and allow our leaders to see what they can do for us all,” he said.
