The Mahali pa Umoja labyrinth is set to be launched on Friday at the Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi.
Mahali pa Umoja is a large circular garden that holds a labyrinth marked with stones, next to the Mugumu tree planted by Kenya's first President Jomo Kenyatta.
The labyrinth contains a large mosaic that points to the four directions - east, south, west, north, in honour of all the lands and communities that are part of Kenya.
It was built by the Trust for Indigenous Culture and Health (TICAH), a Nairobi-based organization dedicated to improving health by recognizing its links to culture, working in partnership with the National Museums of Kenya.
The new Mahali pa Umoja labyrinth at Uhuru Gardens which is 40 meters in diameter and takes at least ten minutes to walk, is a place to relax and let go of what is not useful to you.
It involves an ancient practice of walking on a path while praying, singing or chanting, that is shared by all religions and cultures.
The opening ceremony, which is set to be attended by more than a hundred well-wishers, is aimed at building trust and connection and will include activities such as drawing a mural of Kenya's dreams and walking the new labyrinth.
