Mombasa county boss Ali Hassan Joho is to blame for diseases outbreak in the region, Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu.

According to Mailu, the second term governor has done little in clearing the garbage mess in the county. He said that uncollected dirt in different parts of the county has made residents vulnerable to different diseases.

This comes after the outbreak of different diseases including chikungunya and dengue fever. A report from Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) indicated that Changamwe, Mvita and Kisauni sub-counties area among the most affected areas.

Mailu claimed that the county government has not been reporting incidents of diseases in the region as expected for action to be taken to remedy the same.

“The delay in administrating and being able to communicate can affect the population we want to serve. Rain, garbage and environmental condition encouraged breeding of mosquitos and transmission of disease,” Dr Mailu said.

Mailu said that diseases recorded in the county have been spreading from other counties, adding that there is need for Joho and his officials to report the cases in good time.

He was speaking to the press after officially opening the parliamentary committee on Health retreat at Pride Inn Paradise Beach Resort in Mombasa.
