The ongoing nurses strike in most parts of the country has greatly hampered the war against the cholera scourge currently facing the country.

This is according to health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu who revealed that most of the cholera cases could have been contained if the health workers were on duty.

"As a ministry the nurses strike has really hit us hard especially in this war against cholera. There are some cases which could have been handled properly if the nurses were on duty," he told KTN News.

The CS however distanced his ministry against claims that it was sabotaging salary negotiations with the health workers and said the Salary and Remuneration Commission (SRC) and the county government were to blame for the stalemate.

His sentiments come at a time when several cases of cholera outbreak have been reported in Nairobi leaving scores of people dead and others admitted amid a a defiant nurses position that they will not go back to work until their renegotiated 2016 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is implemented in full by the county governments.
