High Court judge Ngenye Macharia on Thursday declined to declare Maina’s trial null and void.

He directed the case to be heard on a day-to-day basis until its conclusion.

The Laikipia Senate aspirant had petitioned the court to terminate his trial, saying it will take too long to be concluded.

He is charged alongside four others, namely Francis Mwangi, Daniel Wanjohi, Ngare Njogu and Stephen Kuria.

They are accused of taking guns from officers Edwin Koech and Moses Mwangi on April 22 in 2013 at Hope International Ministries at Thome Estate in Kasarani, Nairobi.

It is said they unlawfully held the officers in one of the rooms at the church for hours.

They were also charged with damaging a government vehicle on that day.
