The Machakos County Chairman of Imams Committee Sheikh Abdalla has urged the police not to harass Muslim faithfuls during the Ramadhan celebrations but instead maintain security peacefully.
Speaking in Machakos, Jamia Mosque on Sunday evening, Sheikh Abdallah condemned past arrests by police without any basis which disrupted the prayers.
"We have been disrupted in the past years mainly during the night prayers but we are not against security crackdowns which keep citizens safe," said Abdallah.
The Muslims are expecting to begin the 29 or 30 days fasting and praying holy month on Tuesday.
"We are waiting to begin the holy month which will be a time to also pray for our Country's peace," he added.
The Ramadhan according to Islamic belief is the ninth month of the calendar which is celebrated worldwide with prayer, fasting and charity.
