Speaking on Tuesday morning at the market, the businessmen who sell green maize said that the business has been booming for the last 3 months since residents prefer buying fresh maize to cook githeri and use as ‘mahindi choma’. This has seen a growth in their business as the traders are fetching huge profits than the previous days.

"Previously, it was difficult to make sales as residents did not buy maize. The stock could last for like 2 weeks before the new stock would come in. but these days, each day a new stock comes in since the demand is high. I believe the hard economic times have forced residents to buy maize that is cheap for them. Three fresh large size maize costs sh30”, said Nelson Kibet, a trader.

The traders purchase maize from farmers in the Rift Valley region and sell it at the market at different prices depending on the size.
